Just found this! Thank you for stirring fabulous (drunken!) memories of moshing around the pillar in the '90s. Great to see the photos.

OMG-litro just came across this whilst randomly googling my (mis spent) past haunts! Was a regular haunt from about 1982-89 when I moved away from Leeds. Can still remember the pounding goth beats, smell of sweat and taste of snakebite...loved the place and love this site...reliving the best times xxxx 2-1

Fond memories as a 16 yo kid visiting my big brother in Leeds in the late 1980s. He’d take me to the Phono for the best nights out. Never forgotten it. RIP Andy Mattocks, miss you loads.

I was a regular at the Saturday lunchtimes and occasional Friday and Saturday nights in the early to mid 80s. I live a long, long way from Leeds now but have happy memories of Phono nights. Goth hasn’t aged that well, has it?

Started going around mid-1981 when Annie Hogan moved from DJing at the Observatory. She was playing Adam and the Ants, Kid Creole, Depeche Mode at first. Was a Saturday night regular until 84ish.

Excellent nights. Snake bite and black, maybe a shot of pernod if you were feeling flush.
